Questions That Smart Dentists Like You Are Asking
I’m not looking to sell. Why should I attend?
1. Eventually, this is the crossroads you’ll face. And as private practitioners age out, fewer opportunities to sell direct to another dentist will be available. Younger dentists are entering the field saddled with debt, unable to get a startup loan to fund a practice or acquire a practice. They’re already working for big corporate dentistry. Sooner than later, there will be scant few practitioners looking to buy your practice.
2. This is an opportunity to get exponentially more value from your existing assets. If you love practicing, there’s nothing stopping you from growing beyond your current practice. Becoming the DSO can give you more leverage than you ever imagined possible.
Are these numbers realistic?
There’s a difference between sales projections and reality.
Your actual sale price, should you choose to go the traditional direct-to-dentist sale or the corporate DSO route can vary.
When it comes to selling to a corporate DSO, their accountants will delay the final sales number based on their ability to calculate “true EBITDA” (Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation, and Amortization) which in 99 of of 100 cases will be much lower than what your accountant has calculated for you.
